Do you have breakfast?
Introduction
There
is nothing more important than health. “Health is above wealth”,
wise people say, because you can't be good at your studies or work
well if you don't take care of your health. Food is very important
for your health. You should try to eat three well-balanced meals
every day. Breakfast is the most important part of the beginning of a
day. We take power and energy from it. Although I have breakfast very
rarely I know that it is the most important part of eating.
As
for me I try to take care of my health, though sometimes it is very
difficult. But I have some problems with my food. I like cakes and
chocolate very much. And it's difficult for me to give up the sweets.
Usually I skip my breakfast. That's why I've decided to learn more
new about breakfast. The purpose of my work is to learn more about
use of breakfast. I wonder to know what English and Russian people
have for breakfast and which breakfast habits have my classmates.
Basic Part
1. Healthy Eating
All
the food are really just different forms of a few basic types of food
your body need. These food types are carbohydrates, proteins, and
fats. They contain ofter things your body needs – fiber, vitamins
and minerals, and water.
Carbohydrates
are your body's main source of energy. Foods that are high in
carbohydrates include fruits, bread, cereals, rice, pasta, potatoes,
peas, and beans.
Sugar
in candy is also a carbohydrate, but the candy usually has no other
nutrients in it. This is an important reason why it is better for you
to eat a piece of fresh fruit that a candy for a snack or dessert.
Proteins
are the building blocks of life. Proteins help your body to repair
and replace cells, build muscle, and control many of the important
chemicals reactions inside you. Good sources of proteins are fish,
poultry, milk, eggs, and meat. Plants are also sources of proteins,
but a single type of plant may not contain all the amino acids you
need. Vegetable and grain foods combined with dairy products can give
you all the amino acids.
Fats
are also an important part of a healthy diet. They provide your body
with chemicals called fatty acids, which your body uses for energy
and growth. Fats are found in
many foods, including meats, eggs, cheese, butter, margarine, and
nuts.
Your
body needs vitamins. Vitamin A gives you healthy eyes and skin and
helps you grow. It is found in a number of foods, including liver,
carrots, squash, and spinach.
Several
vitamins named with letter B help your body turn food into energy,
repair tissues, build muscled, and make red blood cells. Liver,
pork, whole-grain cereals, dark
leafy vegetables, and peanuts are some of the foods containing B
vitamins.
Vitamin
C gives you healthy teeth, gums, and bones. It is found in citrus
fruits such as oranges and grapefruits as well as in tomatoes,
strawberries, and spinach.
Vitamin
D gives you strong bone. Milk is a good source for this vitamin. Your
skin makes vitamin D directly from the sunlight!
Your
body needs about 13 different vitamins.
The
best way to be sure you get all the things your body needs is to eat
at least three good, balanced meals each day, with servings from four
basic food groups. And you grow strong and healthy.

2. About Breakfast
All
people in the world have breakfast, and most people eat and drink the
same things for breakfast. They may different things for all the
ofter meals in the day, but at breakfast time, most people have the
same things to eat and drink – Tea or Coffee, Bread and Butter,
Fruit.
Some
people eat meat for breakfast. English people usually eat meat at
breakfast time, but England is a cold country. It is bad to eat meat
for breakfast in a hot country. It is bad to eat too much meat; if
you eat meat for breakfast, you eat meat three times a day; and that
is bad in a hot country. It is also bad to eat meat and drink tea at
the same time, because tea makes meat hard so that the stomach cannot
deal with it.
The
best breakfast is Tea or Coffee, Bread and Butter, Fruit. That is the
usual breakfast of most people in the world.
Breakfast
in Britain
A
traditional English breakfast is very big meal – sausages, bacon,
eggs, tomatoes, mushrooms ... . But nowadays many people just have
porridge or cereals with milk and sugar, or toast with marmalade,
jam, or honey. Instead of porridge they may have fruit juice, or they
may prefer biscuits. Marmalade and jam are not the same. Marmalade is
made from oranges and jam is made from other fruit. The traditional
breakfast drink is tea, which people have with cold milk. Some people
have coffee, often instant coffee, which is made with just hot water.
Many visitors to Britain find this coffee disgusting.
Breakfast in Russia
Today
morning meal in Russia does not much differ from European. Porridge
with jam, pancakes with sour cream, omelet or fried eggs, toasts have
become habitual meal for us. Some people have just a cup of tea or
coffee with a toast. This is usually called a “continental
breakfast”. From drinks are popular tea and coffee. In the past
truly Russians drank tea by their own traditional ceremony with
samovar. But it's impossible to imagine our modern lifestyle without
electric teapot and coffee-maker.
3.
Breakfast for Children
Breakfast
provides children with the energy and nutrients they need to
concentrate on school work and learn. Studies show that it provides
as much as ¼ of the
recommended daily allowance for key nutrients, such as calcium,
protein, vitamins A and B6, magnesium, iron and zinc.
Research
shows that children who eat breakfast have higher achievement scores,
lower rates of absence and tardiness, and increased concentration in
the classroom. Another important reason to eat breakfast is that
healthful habits learned early in life could stave off many adulthood
health problems associated with poor diet, such as diabetes and
obesity.
Ideally,
you want to make a breakfast that consists of protein, fat and
carbohydrate. That will prevent drops in blood sugar for several
hours. A drops in blood sugar can mean a decline in energy level and
the outset of hunger symptoms like a stomachache or headache, which
interfere with learning. Balanced meals offering foods from several
food groups (containing carbohydrate, protein and fat) are designed
to sustain children's energy throughout the morning.
If
breakfast is rushed in the morning, eating something is still better
than eating nothing. So, if a child eats a banana or piece of string
cheese on the way to school, that's better than them starting the day
on an empty stomach.
Breakfast
that include foods from several food groups provide the most benefit
to children, both educationally and physically. Simple breakfast that
can be prepared quickly and easily include:
-
Juice and cereal with milk,
-
Toast with peanut butter and a piece of fruit,
-
A fruit smoothie made with yogurt,
-
A hard-coved egg and a bagel,
-
A cereal bar or a piece of fresh fruit and string cheese are great
portable breakfast ,
-
Leftovers can be breakfast too-soup and crackers, tortillas with
melted cheese or chicken drumsticks can all work in a pinch!
We
all feel better when we are getting the nutrition our bodies need,
and a great way to jump into your day is by starting off with a
healthy breakfast.
To
know children's opinion about breakfast,we asked 50 teenagers from
our school about their habits.
Here
are their answers.
The
most of them have breakfast obviously. It's a good index. Their
parents also have a good habit to do breakfast. May be that's why
our teenagers have breakfast too. They follow their parents.
But
we can see they eat too little vegetables and fruit. So their
nutrition is not adequate and wholesome. I'd recommend them to
correct their diet by doing it more healthy and useful.
